History
The Children’s Museum of Winston-Salem was conceived by the Junior
League of Winston-Salem as its 75th anniversary gift to the community.
The Museum — now a separate 501 (c) (3) nonprofit — opened its
doors on November 20, 2004, following a successful capital campaign.
The Museum is comprised of 26,000 square feet of exhibit space, common
areas, and offices (for both the Museum and for the Junior League of Winston-Salem).
The Museum depends upon earned (admissions, field trips and groups,
facility rentals) and contributed (annual gala, annual fundraising luncheon,
corporate, individual and grants) income for its annual operations. The
Museum has a board of directors as well as a community advisory board.
